Jesus is coming soon to take up his throne on the earth
A few years ago, I went to the OneThing Conference in Kansas City, run by the International House of Prayer team. The worship was great. The messages were amazing. As my friend Ryan said, “Woah! God’s here.” It changed my life.
What stood out most to me was the idea that Jesus really is returning some day. He’s coming soon, just like he promised. It’s not a myth; it’s not a fictional story to give us Christians some encouragement until we die. No, this is the real deal. Jesus really is coming back.
Though I had been walking with Jesus for 5 years before heading to OneThing, the return of Jesus had always been more of a theological idea than a reality to me. I mean, sure I knew he said he’d be returning soon, but he said that two-thousand years ago, and he hadn’t come back yet. And, sure, it was a promise (and not a rare or obscure one at that), but it was far in the future and not really on my radar screen.
But my thinking changed five years ago.
I don’t know why Jesus hasn’t returned yet, and I don’t know when he will. Maybe it’ll be later tonight; maybe he’ll come back in a few years; maybe it won’t be for another two-thousand years. But I know he’s coming.
It’s a sure thing.
My job is threefold: (1) be ready, (2) prepare others, and (3) desire his return.
Revelation 22:7 – “Behold, I am coming quickly.”
